Evaluating Heavy Traffic Loading for Electrified Roads in New Zealand
Reviewer's feedback:
The subject of this paper is relevant, especially in the context of increasing EV adoption and its implications for pavement design. However, the analysis presented is largely descriptive, focusing on traffic loading statistics and predefined deformation formulas, without providing new insights or methodological advancements. There is minimal discussion on the uncertainties, limitations, or potential refinement of the input parameters used in the pavement life predictions. Furthermore, the conclusions drawn are quite general and do not translate into actionable guidance for researchers or practitioners. To enhance its academic contribution, the paper should include a more in-depth analysis of the current data, aiming to extract novel findings or insights that could advance the understanding of electrified road performance under heavy traffic.
This paper addresses an important and emerging issue related to pavement performance under heavy battery-electric vehicle (BEV) traffic, specifically in the context of New Zealand. The use of WiM data and Ansys-based modeling brings strong local relevance. However, the manuscript currently lacks sufficient depth in the results, simulation assumptions, and parameter exploration. The IPT mention is intriguing but undeveloped. Additionally, the abstract does not communicate key outcomes, and the overall structure exceeds the 4-page limit. While the paper is suitable for conference presentation after revisions, it would require significant strengthening for journal publication.
Editorial Decision for Conference Proceedings:
It is recommended that authors follow the template and make necessary changes. Suitable for conference publication.
