Investigation Into The Use Of Steel Slag And Lime In Asphalt Concrete

Reviewer's feedback:

Steel slag is environmentally harmful. Experience has shown that steel slag may leed to PH-values of up to 14 when in contact with water, and the water that runs off will intoxicate the environment. Spreading steel slag out through the country in asphalt concrete is very unwise. All asphalt concrete is porous to a certain degree, increasing with crack formation and culminating when asphalt is removed from the road surface at end of life. Transport, storage and reuse all present significant dangers to the environment. Concerning the article, discussion of the environmental consequences of using steel slag is totally absent. This is unacceptable. A decent analysis of the environmental consequences is the first step, and a clear research on the pollution of steel slags should be carried out before even considering applying steel slags in a test track.

Editorial Decision for Conference Proceedings:

In light of Reviewer 1's feedback, please consider adding harmful environment impacts in a short paragraph.
